The dream is delayed one more day. My flight left Houston going to Christchurch via Auckland. After going just past Baja Mexico, the flight has been turned around, bound for Los Angeles. Someone on board has a medical emergency. Personally, I would have preferred that we stop in Hawai’i, but LA is the stop.
Fortunately, I brought some shorts and not taken my sleeping pills yet. This adds up to an interesting situation. Unusually, I had some wine after dinner. I guess I have done this on every big flight, but it doesn’t seem to do much besides giving me a headache.
My seat mate was coincidentally also moving. The guy, Robert, is a professor in virtual reality. Seriously. Kind of a crazy thing, but he seems pretty cool. We just happen to be taking this adventure on at the same time. Luckily for him, his job is set. Luckily for me, Kim is only away for two months. He is leaving his family for five.
I also watched The Martian on our brief attempt at a trans-pacific flight. It was an interesting movie, and it reminded me that I am not moving planets. It seems rather fortunate, since Mars seems a bit more rough. Kidding aside, it is very cool that science is getting movie treatments again. Maybe there is some hope that we will learn more.
However to close out this post, I really don’t know what this is going to do other than really delay the hell out of my arrival. I hope I will get a place to sleep, but who knows? What I do know is that I am tired, and I am guessing there will be a couple hundred cranky people. It is the right thing of course, but certainly not expected. Right now, it seems like they are going to land, drop off whoever is having the issues, refuel, and go again.
